Gum Recontouring – Queen Creek, AZ

Say Goodbye to Your “Gummy Smile”

Ideally, no more than a few millimeters of gum tissue should be visible when you smile. Otherwise, your teeth may look disproportionately small or stubby, and your gums might call too much attention to themselves! If you are struggling with this issue, visit our Queen Creek dental team to learn more about gum recontouring. This minimally invasive cosmetic service might be just what you need to say goodbye to your “gummy smile” for good!

What Is Gum Recontouring?

Gum recontouring is also known as gum contouring, gummy smile correction, gingivoplasty, and crown lengthening. (Technically, crown lengthening is a slightly different procedure, though it is very frequently used interchangeably with gum recontouring.)

During the gum recontouring procedure, we carefully remove excess gum tissue in order to reshape your gumline. This reveals more of the underlying dentition, which can make the teeth appear larger and lead to improved proportions for your smile. To make this surgery as comfortable, precise, and efficient as possible, we use a Solea soft tissue laser — instead of a traditional scalpel — to work on your gums.

How Does Gum Recontouring Work?

During your initial consultation, we will verify that you are a good candidate for gum recontouring and start planning the details of your surgery.

On the day of your procedure, we will do all we can to make you comfortable. For example, we may administer plenty of local anesthetic. Then, we will carefully use the Solea laser to contour your gumline. Procedures performed with a soft tissue laser are inherently easier and more comfortable than those performed with a scalpel, so you can look forward to a smooth and positive treatment experience.

After your procedure, you may need to avoid certain foods and be extra careful with your gum tissue for a few days to a week or longer.

Depending on the extent of the required gum contouring, you might need to come back for multiple appointments. (We may not be able to work on all the gum tissue throughout your mouth at the same time. Rather, we may work in sections to optimize your comfort.)

Benefits of Gum Recontouring

Gum recontouring offers some amazing benefits:

  • A more proportionate smile. You may find that you have greater confidence in your smile’s appearance after your gum recontouring procedure.
  • Open the door for other procedures. Following gum recontouring, you may become a candidate for other cosmetic services, such as veneers and metal-free crowns.
  • Long-lasting results. In most cases, the results of gum recontouring are permanent!
  • Improved oral health. Excess gum tissue may collect food particles and bacteria, causing it to become irritated or possibly even infected. Gum recontouring may reduce those risks.
  • Precise and natural results. The Solea laser and our team’s remarkable skills make it almost guaranteed that you will love your results!
